Mississippi Gamma Chapter of Sigma Alpha Epsilon was founded at The University of Mississippi in 1866.  Since the inception of the alpha chapter on March 9, 1856 at the University of Alabama, SAE has grown to become one of the largest national social fraternities with over 200,000 initiates in well over 200 chapters that span across the country in every state and in Canada.

SAE was the first fraternity to be founded in the South, the first fraternity to build a national headquarters, and the first fraternity to found a leadership school for its members.

At Ole Miss, SAE has had some very distinguished alumni such as Supreme Court Justice L.Q.C. Lamar; Haley Barbour, former Chairman National Republican Committee and former Governor of the state of Mississippi and novelist William Faulkner.  In 1993, the chapter’s advisor, Trammel Wells, MSGA ’68, was awarded Greek Advisor of the Year. In 2002, Anne Kossman was awarded House Director of the Year.

“Some of my fondest memories from Ole Miss happened at the SAE House.  We had a great chapter house, and it was a critical element of what made being an SAE so special.  Because having a first-rate fraternity house is essential to having a first-rate fraternity chapter, I hope you will join me in supporting this very important effort as generously as you can.”
Haley Barbour, MSGA ‘69
